We can sing songs and read bible passages and go to church and listen
on the subject of the cross but for His sacrifice to deeply penetrate
our hearts and minds and to truly understand just exactly what Jesus
The Christ has done for us is so beyond anything we can listen to. The
depth, the height, the width of His love for us on the cross, when we
understand it, becomes overwhelming, becomes unbearable, becomes
incomprehensible and leaves us in utter and complete awe!
Causes us to
not understand how we can so easily be distracted from Him with the
very sins which were laid upon Him and by which He suffered. Causes us
to want to share with others what He has done for us. Beaten beyond
recognition, lashed 'til His body looked like raw meat, spit on,
stripped of His clothing to be shamed in front of thousands of people,
mocked, ridiculed, His hands pierced with nails to wood, a nail driven
through both of His feet to pin Him on the cross that was lifted up for
all to see.
Do you understand that it was supposed to be us to go
through those things? That Jesus stepped in front of us and took the
complete wrath and punishment of God for our iniquity? I can't fathom
it! It doesn't make sense! Until I accept that the God who created all
things, the Almighty Father loves me so much that He wasn't willing to
let me suffer but instead would punish and kill His one and only Son
for my wrongs. His guiltless Son suffering in my place...it's over my
head! I can't fathom it!!
All I know is that He did it and that now
the punishment for my sins has been paid for IN FULL! All I can do is
accept it, and rejoice that because I have accepted it I will never
experience hell, I will never experience separation from God! Thank
you Jesus for the cross!! For the friendship and love that it extends
and reaches to me! Rejoice! For He has risen from the grave and has
defeated death once and for all for all who will come to Him and
accept His free gift to us that cost Him everything!
